TGIF! And For today’s modding guide I’m going to give you a pretty quick and easy guide that can really make the inside of your case look nice and neat. Well here we go:
Introduction
Loom is plastic tubing that is used to wrap wires. It can be also called split loom, and plastic tubing, so when shopping for it, look for it under those names. I bought my loom at an auto shop. You can probably find zip ties there too.
Materials 1. Split Loom (1/2 inch and ¼ inch diameter loom will cover most of the wires in your case) 2. Zip ties
Directions Looming up your wires is very easy, but a bit time consuming. Set aside about 1-3 hours depending on what the wire situation in your case is like. The first step is to measure out the amount of loom for the wires you will cover up. When measuring out the length of the loom, it is always a good idea to cut a bit extra. If you end up with too little, then it looks bad on the ends.
If your loom is split loom, a slit will be pre cut that goes through the entire length of the loom. If your loom for any reason is not split, simply cut it so it is. Once your loom is split, just put the wires into the loom.
After getting all of the wires fitted into your loom, you are done, but there is an additional step that can be taken. Adding zip ties has its advantages and disadvantages. The split loom will hold onto the wires well enough making zip ties unnecessary, but to make sure they are on as securely as possible, zip ties can be helpful. Although zip ties make loom stay on wires very nicely, adding zip ties takes up time and money. Plus, if you ever decide to rewrap your wires in something else, undoing zip ties can be a bia.
If you think zip ties are right for you, read on: A general rule of thumb that I use is one zip tie every 3-5 inches. To get the best grip from your zip ties, you can warm them up with a blow dryer to soften them up, and then zip them on.
Once the zip ties are in place, all you have to do is cut off all of the excess plastic from the zip ties and you are done.
Conclusion
Looming is a cheap solution to make wires look a lot nicer, but for some, looming is not good enough. Some times zip ties don’t look as nice as some would want them too, and loom isn’t exactly sexy. If you want to spend more money to make your wires easier to look at, go to google and look up wire sleeving. Sleeving is the classy alternative to loom. Anyways as always you can email me or go post it in the forums, peace out-
