Hello again and welcome to this Friday’s Modding Guide. Today we’ll be learning how to install and functionally activate a 6″ LCD into your case. Below is a picture of the tools used and parts needed for this mod. I’d like to thank my good friend Mark for the pics. On to the good stuff:
The bolts used were a standard #6 screw and were 1 1/2 inches long. The bolts were from some fan filters that weren’t used. Perfect for the job, and the holes drilled in the case were done with a 13/64 drill bit. That allowed enough room to move the screen to center it with the front bezel. The #6 screws were a little too big for the holes on the LCD screen, so the four mounting brackets on the LCD screen also had to be drilled out with a 5/32 drill bit to fit the screws.
When mounting the screen two nuts had to be placed on the bolts. The first to hold down the screen and second to set the depth of the screen from the case and make it flush with the front bezel. Then after positioning the screen lock down nuts were used on the inside of the case to hold the screen in place.
After the screen is completely centered a small amount of metal epoxy was used to hold the machined aluminum bezel on the LCD screen. Just a couple of dabs on the corner’s of the screen did just fine to hold the bezel on.
The picture below shows what it looks like assembled and painted to match for the sake of those who only take it this far.
And a true final picture with the machined cover plate and stealthed drive.
Finally, a gratuitous picture of the case all lit up playing the absolute best game in the world on the little LCD.
Well, there you have it, a simple way to mod an LCD screen into your case. I’d like to say its no big deal and that just about anyone can do it, but be prepared and don’t go cutting and drilling in places that you don’t belong, you can easily damage your nice new LCD screen. And plus how cool would it look to have space invaders on the front of your comp if there was a giant crack in it. Ok well as always send all your questions and comments to brasonmyguitar@gmail.com peace out-
